Founded in the early 1990’s, Giovanni Bucchi Studio specializes in traditional water distemper gilding, restoration, and conservation. The experience of the studio is represented by 47-years of practice with a range that encompasses Simone Martini (b. 1284 d.1344) to Mathias Goeritz (b.1915 d.1990.)
The objects treated are many and vary in nature and condition and include American furniture, Continental Classic furnishing, Old Master, Panel paintings, Altar pieces, carved and sculpted wood frames, gilded interior woodwork as well as modern and contemporary gilded objects.
The strict adherence to traditional techniques from the country and period of the object’s origin is fundamental to our practice. The wealth of information acquired over the years has allowed us to advise both private clients and institutions with issues related to collection conservation emergency treatment and questions related to authenticity.
We are all temporary custodians of the objects for which we care for and which will outlast us. Our duty is to transmit to the next generation these objects without removing or changing irreversibly the evidence of authenticity that these objects carry within them.
The preservation of the craft itself, water distemper gilding, which has allowed the transfer, is a crucial asset to be shared with the next generation and an integral part of our educational mission.
